This is an attempt of creating an angel that appears steadfast and strong yet beautiful to behold. It lives in an unseen realm but can make its presence felt and seen in this physical world when called upon. The sword seems to have a life of its own and its power is unimaginable. It is much more than a symbol.

Noah's Ark

After the waters receded, the ark came to rest on a mountain top in the Ararat region. The ark easily held all the animals that were commanded to go and enter. Noah, his wife, his three boys and their wives were the only humans on board and the only survivors of the great world wide flood. The ark was a great vessel and withstood every known natural force of that catastrophe. When it was finally safe to leave all the animals were released and a rainbow was set in the sky as a symbol and promise that God would not destroy the Earth again by water. Noah and his family eventually travelled in different directions on a new Earth and replenished it.

Not meant to be a sad painting, but a vision of the promise of our Savior meeting us on the other side of eternity. The first thing this boy sees on arriving at the edge of Heaven is Jesus. The footprints of Jesus shows that He has come to meet the boy; the boy has no footprints because this is the spot of his arrival. Together they will go to the Celestial City just beyond our view.

Star in the East Study

Star in the East (study) 14”x18” oil

Perhaps the star in the East that was followed by Magi was an angel. Here we are looking down over the back of this angel as it begins its descent into the clouds above countryside near Bethlehem. Angels are not only challenging because we don’t have much to study to picture them, but also as beings of light. We normally see things because they reflect light from their surface, however angels have been said to be a sources of light. I enjoy the challenge of creating that which has not been seen or taking the viewer to places that cannot be reached.

Jesus is known as the Great Physician. The idea behind this work is what it might be like to experience your eyesight returning. The center of the work is sharp, but the outside edges remain soft and out-of-focus as the eyes recover.

I find it interesting that so often we focus on the “feeding of the 5000” rather than the faith of a young boy. Everyone else, including the disciples, failed to understand that Jesus was able to feed all 5000, yet this lad had faith that Jesus could and here he offers he humble lunch.

All night the disciples of Jesus fished without any catch of fish and their nets remained empty. Jesus told them to cast their net on the other side of their boat and when they began to pull in their net they saw that it was filled to the point of breaking the net. This could have happened in the still of the early morning just before the sun broke over the eastern sky and a fog has not lifted yet. The water is perfectly calm just before the great catch is made.
